A Note from the Artist

The goodly Barrow flows for almost 200km through the Irish countryside, becoming tidal at St Mullins in the south of County Carlow. A little further north is a fantastic spot, Clashganny. Here the weir takes the river in one direction while the canal cut takes a more direct route joining the river downstream a few miles on. The small lake in front of the lock gate is a great swimming hole in the summer months, while the weirs on the river provide endless fun for kayakers. Negotiating a more sedate passageway amongst all the other river enthusiasts are the narrowboats which ply the stretch between the Grand canal and a favourite stop at Graiguenamanagh further south.
