The Waterford Greenway

The Waterford Greenway cycle and walking route opened along the old Waterford to Dungarvan rail line in the Spring of 2017. It was one of the country’s most spectacular rail journeys, so it’s perhaps unsurprising that it has been so popular from the get-go. From the dramatic viaduct at Kilmacthomas to Dungarvan is probably the most scenic stretch of the route. Along the way, you pass through the chilly pitch darkness of the Ballyvoyle tunnel before emerging into what feels like a tropical landscape. Now you can taste the salt in the air and shortly after, you round the corner onto the Copper Coast and from there it’s a free wheeling spin along the causeway to some well-earned refreshments in Dungarvan.
