A Bit of History

Bowe’s Pub was established in 1880 and situated just a stone’s throw from the Trinity College. It has been a favourite haunt for students ever since. Almost opposite the printworks of the Irish Times when it was based in D’Olier Street, it also served as a refuge for compositors and journalists from the various publications based around Fleet Street. Bowe’s has about it a genuine old world charm. Half hidden, behind its dark red exterior and with a large clock indicating to all that it’s time for a dram, while other pubs in the area have succumbed to the lure of the tourist dollar, Bowes has retained the character and clientele of a traditional Dublin bar.
