A Bit of History

Built in 1789 as a grocery store, this legendary watering hole began operating full-time as a pub when purchased by the O’Donoghue family in 1934. Always a popular musical venue, it really came into its own in the 1960s when the Dubliners began performing at the premises and today remains indelibly associated with the folk group.

Other notable Irish musicians including Séamus Ennis, Joe Heaney, Andy Irvine, Christy Moore, the Fureys, and Phil Lynott have played at O’Donoghue’s, alongside less celebrated but no less talented purveyors of Irish traditional and folk music, guaranteeing O’Donaghue’s a special place in the heart of Dubliners at home and abroad.
