A Bit of History

Skerries or Na Sceirí in Irish, meaning Rocky Islands is a renowned north Dublin fishing port, holiday destination, and was once a centre of hand embroidery. There are five islands off the coast, though the most famous, Red Island is not strictly one, being connected by a tombolo or spit of beach to the mainland. One of the others, Rockabill, is home to the lighthouse of the same name and the largest colony of roseate terns in Europe.
