Malahide’s origins are primarily centred around the Viking era, when it became an important base for the Norsemen. Three centuries later the Anglo Normans usurped the Danes, and in their stead the Talbot family arrived in every sense of the word. These allies of Henry II set about developing the extensive lands they had been granted, and by 1185 work had started on Malahide castle.
By the Georgian era, Malahide had become a popular seaside spot, and the arrival of the railway opened up the area to visitors from North and South.
