A Bit of History

Clonskeagh or Clean Sceach (meadow of the whitethorn) has its southern boundary at Roebuck Road and at the city end, the junction of Eglinton Road and Milltown Road are generally regarded the northern extent of the suburb. It’s primarily a residential district, but with UCD at its eastern edge, the handsome Crampton built redbrick avenues leading towards Windy Arbour and the river Dodder meandering through to Milltown, its a picturesque and interesting area to have a wander around.

The first-ever All Ireland Senior Football Championship  final was held in Beech Hill, Clonskeagh, one of the features of the area, on April 29, 1888, on the ground of St Benburb’s Football Club. Not a lot of people know that!
